There was no debate here. It’s not even so much about Harry Potter, which I do adore. It’s about the fact that I think she is an absolutely amazing person, a heroine for our generation. We all know that Rowling is a true Cinderella story. She was at absolute rock bottom, a single mother barely skimping by, when Harry Potter was published and became a phenom. It’s a great story, that’s definitely true. But it’s Rowling’s words and behavior after the fact that I love so much. She doesn’t just talk the talk, she walks the walk. She, the first author to become a billionaire, is no longer classified as such because of her charitable donations. She is politically outspoken, and she makes no secret of her disdain toward the “Vernon Dursleys” of the World (no doubt he would be a Fox News addict if HP took place in America). Her stalwart political stances have upset some, but I admire them, and I think that her willingness to speak out on issues that are important to her is fantastic. She has a BRILLIANT way with words. Regardless of your opinion on her books check out her Harvard Commencement Speech. I dare you to not be impressed. I could really go on and on and give examples as to WHY I THINK SHE IS SO GREAT, but in the end? It’s been said and done. I just seriously adore this woman. I want to be her, but I could never be half as awesome.
